FROM THE SEA CAME THE DUST

She had carried the sparkly dust in a tube
From a beach quite near her home
And took it out to look at from time to time
No matter where she happened to roam

It was lighter than air, than feathers, than breath
Sometimes she thought is must surely be gone
But it made her feel safe and lucky somehow
So she couldn’t bear for it to really be done

When she found herself finally on another shoreline
She felt the need for the dust disappearing
Was she at last growing up or just growing lucky?
She didn’t know but she knew she was past fearing

Then one night at dusk when the breezes were slight
She spilled the tube into her cupped hand
Said words of incantation quite like a prayer
Then blew the dust out to sea, sent it over the sand
