On a lake just north of here
Two Canadian geese who
Should by now be flown
Far away south are
Not, instead they sit
Upon the pebbled beach
In front of the mansions
Ringing the lake – they hunker
Down, all fluffed out with
Murderous eyes and hoarse
Honks escaping their frost-
Crusted beaks growing more
Feeble every day looking
Less like the proud fowl
They’re reputed to be
More like the Christmas
Repast they might end up
Well written, but oh so sad! :-(
